Great Bend - A fire broke out in the Wolcott block, Great Bend, at 2:30 AM on Tuesday morning. The fire department was called out, but despite their efforts the flames spread rapidly, destroying the block and four buildings adjoining. Among the buildings burned was the iron sheated block owned by Mr. Waldron, which was completely gutted. Just how the fire started is a mystery. It is not expected the insurance will cover the loss. The department at Hallstead did valiant service, arriving on the scene after a hard run. AND New families are moving into Great Bend every week and it will not be long before there will be an urgent demand for living rooms. This additional population is caused by the tannery demands for help.

Fairdale - The Fairdale Dramatic Club will give the drama. "Our Best Society," at the M.E. Church, in that place, on Wednesday evening, Feb 25, to be followed by the roaring farce, "Our Awful Aunt." Music by Philharmonic Orchestra of Montrose. Admission 20 cents. Children under twelve: 10-cents.

Susquehanna - It is said that Mr. J. Prescott, the Erie excursion agent, has purchased the lease of the Starrucca House, together with its hotel belongings, of Mr. C.A. Miller, the present tenant.

Forest City - Over 200 hundred persons signed the temperance pledge at one of McConnell's [the temperance orator] meetings at Forest City, recently.

News Briefs - St. Louis, Mo., General William T. Sherman, known for his military leadership during the Civil War, was burned on Feb 21. Attending his funeral was Col. W.F. Cody [Buffalo Bill] who served under Gen. Sherman as a scout on the plains a quarter of a century ago. 25,000, many of them veterans, in line to cemetery.
