Although the date of organization of the Rush Band has not been determined, it was very active in the 1890's. Many articles appeared in the Montrose Democrat and Independent Republican, Montrose, during that period of time. In April, 1894, "The cornet band serenaded the citizens on Saturday evening. They were assisted by Mr. Kuschel on the clarinet. Mr. Kuschel returned to his home in Pittston this week." In June of 1894 "The open air concerts given by the Rush cornet band are proving very attractive. They occur on Tuesday and Saturday evenings of each week." And at Birchardville's 4th of July "The Improved Order Red Men of Birchardville will hold a great 4th of July celebration. Races, plays, speeches, & c. The Rush cornet band will be present. Platform dance afternoon and evening."
In 1901 the Independent Republican of July 19, reported that "the Rush Cornet Band will furnish music at the Sunday school picnic at Dimock, Aug. 1."
In 1937, in the Montrose Independent on Nov. 18, "Maurice D. Taylor, director of the Montrose School Band, accompanied by a number of school musicians, went to Rush last evening and gave an informal program. A meeting was held at which the matter of organizing a school band in that place was considered. There is considerable sentiment for the organization of a band and a number spoke in favor if it, although no definite action was taken."
